You’ve probably seen the label “Fairtrade” on a lot of products. But what exactly does it mean? And how does it correlate to sustainability? Plus, my favorite “Fairtrade” brands.

What Is Fairtrade?

The Fairtrade certification essentially means workers are paid living wages and work in safe environments. There are rigorous standards set in place for the Fairtrade certification, with yearly evaluations for certification. Here are a few brands that get the Going Zero Waste seal of approval.

Why Is Fairtrade Important?

Fairtrade focuses on increasing women and girls’ human, social, financial and physical capital. It ensures child labor rights and safety. It ensures workers rights and a fair wage. Plus, it mitigates climate change.
