best tub cleaner
I hate vacuuming, but I love cleaning the bathroom… especially the bathtub. To be honest, I haven’t always loved cleaning the tub.
It’s rigid. It’s bumpy. It has hard water stains and can take a lot of scrubbing.
My roommate is on vacation for a couple of months. I peeked into his/the guest bathroom to make sure it was being cleaned properly and I wasn’t surprised at all – it’s not.
I don’t think he’s scrubbed anything a day in his life. And, if he’s reading this – hopefully he’ll get the memo. I am happy to make homemade bath tub cleaner and get busy cleaning anytime! It takes moments and doesn’t require you to do any scrubbing.
why you’ll love homemade bath tub cleaner
- zero waste
- no scrubbing required
- best tub cleaner
- no harsh chemicals
- doesn’t have a strong odor
- works quickly
- makes your tub sparkle
- non toxic
The list goes on and on! The bottom of the guest shower is that rigid, bumpy material. Dirt can easily get trapped in those ridges. It’s super difficult to scrub.
using this bathtub cleaner DIY to clean a shower
step 1: add bath scrub
To clean my shower in a zero waste manner, I start with a rag. Dip the rag into the tub cleaner. Rub it in circular motions on the tub or shower floor.
step 2: let the best tub cleaner rest
Walk away for 10 minutes or more, depending on how bad the stains are. Come back and wipe the grime away. I feel like an infomercial, but it’s really that easy. It practically wipes away.
step 3: rinse
Then I fill a bucket with water and make sure all the scrub is washed away.
I love this homemade bath tub cleaner because it’s super easy and it’s not filled with unnecessary chemicals. It’s not dangerous if you breathe it in. You don’t feel like you’ve fumigated your house. And, it just cleans super, super well.
tub cleaner ingredients:
- 3/4 Cup of Baking Soda (Bought in bulk)
- 2-3 Tablespoons of Hydrogen Peroxide (I still buy this in packaging. Also great for homemade bleach.)
- 2-3 Tablespoons of Liquid Castile Soap (I like Dr. B, but sometimes I use the dish soap from Fillaree which is awesome.)
how to make bath scrub
Mix all of these ingredients in a small bowl. The mixture should become a thick paste. This mixture is what I use for the entire tub.
There’s not very good natural light in this bathroom. But, hopefully, you can see the difference. This also works excellently for grout!
frequently asked questions
how long does the tub cleaner need to sit?
For minimally dirty areas, I recommend allowing it to sit for 10 minutes or so. It’s the best bath scrub ever, but it still can’t work miracles in less than 10 minutes! 🙂
For bigger jobs, go ahead and let it sit for 20 minutes then wipe away. If the area still isn’t clean, you can repeat the process and break out a few scrub brushes to get the job done.
how long does this bath scrub last?
It really needs to be used right away. It’s not meant to be saved for another time because the ingredients just don’t save together well. You could potentially put it in a glass jar and save it for a day or so, but not much longer than that.
does this bathtub cleaner DIY smell strong?
Nope! The ingredients are all mild and do not have a strong odor. So, you don’t have to worry about it flaring up your allergies!
