Festival Season

The days are getting longer, the weather is getting warmer, and festival season is in full swing. Festivals are always filled with disposables and single use products.  Carnival Fantistico, the Italian Renaissance Fair, was in town. Let me tell you, Renaissance faires hold a special place in my heart. Justin and I met performing at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire in 2013.  I was a wannabe pirate, and he was the town beggar. It was a match made in heaven.

As soon as I heard there was a faire, I knew we had to go. I have to say, I think I enjoyed being a patron more than a performer. Or maybe that was just the preseco talking....  One awesome thing about celebrating the renaissance, is back then everything was reusable. In fact brining your own wooden bowl or chalice is encouraged. I think my mason jar gave them a little bit of a shock, but they obliged.

Faires are so magical. You get to see amazing craftsmen, musicians, and performers. We sat down for a commedia rendition of Romeo and Juliet, watched a glass blower, but mostly we walked around enjoying the atmosphere. A faire wouldn't be complete without amazing food. I didn't want to bring a bulky plate; because, I was pretty positive there would be plenty of finger food.

Boy, was I right. I got an amazing wood fire pizza. It was pretty chilly outside. Once they drew it from the oven and it sat on a wooden cutting board for a few seconds, it was ready for grabbing. They placed it right in my hands and I said, "Grazie!"

Here's a picture with my proseco filled mason jar. The wine mistress wasn't so sure about my modern looking cup. She said it smelled like cheese. But, I convinced her cheese and proseco go together very nicely, and she filled it up.

Faires and festivals are so much fun. With a little forethought, it's easy to forgo waste. Think about the amazing impact it would have if we all used one reusable instead of a disposable. Are you going to any faires or festivals this season? What reusable will you bring?
